Forward Together: The Story of Evesham’s Democratic Progress

The thriving community we see in Evesham today didn’t happen by accident. It is the result of years of dedicated organizing, neighbor-to-neighbor conversation, and a shared belief that Marlton deserved a local government that works for everyone.

The Roots of Our Movement (2015–2017)

Before the historic victories, there was a quiet but powerful rebuilding process. Prior to 2018, the Evesham Township Democratic Party had very low participation. The turning point began in 2015 when the party established regular meetings and launched a deliberate, focused effort to recruit more members.

The spark caught fire in late 2016. In the wake of Donald Trump’s election, local residents looked for a way to make a difference right here at home. Virtually overnight, our core membership grew from a dedicated group of a few people into a passionate coalition of active members. Throughout 2017, the Evesham Democrats channeled this newfound energy into structured organization and preparing themselves for the monumental challenge ahead.

The 2018 Blue Wave and a Historic Flip

By 2018, Evesham was primed to become the epicenter of a political sea change. Regionally, New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District was the focus of intense national attention as Democrat Andy Kim launched a high-stakes, grassroots campaign to flip the seat. This massive federal energy harmonized perfectly with local dynamics in Marlton. Months of unprecedented, hard campaigninging came together with the last-minute withdrawal from the race of long-serving Republican Mayor, opening up the race.

Evesham Democrats were ready. Powered by the grassroots engine built over the previous three years, our volunteers knocked on thousands of doors. The result was a historic breakthrough: Jaclyn Veasy won a decisive victory, capturing 52% of the vote to flip the mayor’s office and broke the one-party Republican control.

Promises Made, Promises Kept

Good governance speaks for itself. Over her first term, Mayor Veasy and the Democratic team proved that you can invest in the community while remaining fiscally responsible. From stabilizing municipal finances and upgrading our parks to strengthening community policing, our team delivered.

The community took notice. In 2022, Mayor Veasy made history once again by becoming the first female mayor re-elected in Evesham’s history. Standing alongside her, our Democratic council incumbents were decisively reelected, solidifying a mandate for collaborative, forward-thinking leadership.

Protecting Our Progress

Our momentum reached a powerful milestone in 2024. Thanks to the trust of our neighbors, Evesham voters delivered a sweeping victory to our Democratic slate. By electing Joseph Fisicaro Jr., Christian Smith, and Krystal Hunter, our township firmly protected its progress and ensured a fully united team ready to keep Evesham moving forward.

Today, Evesham stands proud as a premier community in South Jersey—backed by a local government that values fiscal discipline, open communication, and high-quality services for families, seniors, and businesses alike.

From a room of 15 people in 2015 to thousands of voters at the polls today, our success belongs entirely to the people of Evesham.
